Good things

Well, but good things have happened in my life as for example I became an aunt when I was 17 years old and my niece has become little sister. Later, my nephew was born and it was a new nice experience too. The relationship with both of them is amazing, I love these wonderful kids. They are all the time planning to do something and they tell me their plans.

Another good thing was to know my family who live in the south. I decided to go and discover by myself my family, and I don´t regret. They are very nice, they welcomed me and let me know them and shared their stories with me.

I said to myself last year: Glo you have to know the south. This year, on summer I took my huge bag, I bought a bus ticket and I traveled alone. I have never traveled alone before, but I was decided to achieve my wish.

What I haven’t done yet this year is to pass my exams, but the exams are on January so there’s never I can do this year about it. I wanted to exercise myself more, but I couldn’t make so in the top list of my new year’s resolution.

Finally, I can deny that being accepted as a student in Universidad de Chile has been one the best thing that has ever happened to me. When I got the news I couldn’t believe it. I immediately call to all my closer persons. I was so excited and I am still excited when I came to classes. I feel really happy (:

English (:

I started to learn English when I was in elementary school, but it was just a kind of basic learning. When I started high school, everything changed. English was not my favorite subject during elementary school, but when I started to study at "British College" I have to have every single day English. I was kind of forced to learn, but the activities and the classes were so entertaining that it became a interest to me. When I finished high school I was worry about not continuing learning English, but while I have been studying in the university I could have the opportunity of learning. These blogs are the best because I have the chance of use English and at the same time I have to develop my skills of writing. But, I can deny that I really enjoy the dynamic of the classes. It's kind of boring to have class at 6 pm, but I don't fall asleep because every single class it is different and I learn a lot.

I have been learning English since I was a child, but I am sure I am not done about learning. I am reading the news in English and I listen at least one talk on TED to don't forget the pronunciation and to learn something new.

I use English every single day because I share apartment with an Icelandic guy and he doesn't know Spanish, at least, that was he said. I have the chance to talk and ask him when I don't remember how to pronounce a word.

Go green?

I think that being "green" it is a lifestyle, but it is hard to keep it. I have learnt about environmentally friendly practices from my "green" friends. They taught me how to save energy and food, for example. So now I just use candles, just kidding, but I am more conscious about turning off things. I have watched TV series for children with my nephew where we have learnt so practices as save water when we are cleaning our teeth. It was hard at the beginning to do, but I want that my nephew grows in a better world so I make the effort (because it means a change to me) to show my little girl how to live being friendly with the environment. Another way to change my habits had been to use a bicycle, not all the time, because the traffic is tragic in Santiago, but I do on weekends when it's safe to use it. It is a good exercise by the way; when I got home after ride my bike my legs thank me the activity. Using a bike it’s a benefit to the environment but for our body and health too.

Although I believe in green lifestyle I have never joined to a organization related with this. I barely have time to visit my family to do it. Besides I have making some changes in my life to support this "green" movement.

What I would like to do it is to have my own farm, but I don't have time to take care of it. I know it means a compromise very important. I had no idea what is a carbon footprint but, I just made a little research and I think it is not that much because I don't have a car and I don't have any factory.

I think that Santiago needs more bicycle tracks and parking to make easier the life of the people who is trying to carry out this environmentally friendly practice.

It's Britney

My favorite singer is Britney Spears. I have to confess that I started to learn English to understand and sign her songs. I am not proud of that, but it is the true. I was in elementary school when she became famous with her first single "Baby one more time". This became my favorite song because the video was so similar to my school. I remember that all the girls in the class learnt the choreography and danced in a presentation, I didn't because I was really shy at that age.

What I liked about this artist was that she looked like one of us, like a normal student. Then I figured out she left school to follow her dream. Because of the magazines I knew she was raised in Kentwood, Louisiana and she started to perform on the Mickey Mouse Club when she was eight and from that she never stopped. She took dancing lessons. Then, when she grow up recorded a documental about his life and everyone could know every detail of her personal life. It was too risky and she recently regretted of doing it, but I don´t care, she pop singer was and still is one of the best pop performer.

Baby One More Time

A day to remember

I know it is sad, but my remarkable day was when my little brother passed away. I think I start to have memories at that age because of this event. He was born on April the 9th in 1992 when I was 3. My birthday was on the 19th so he was kind of my gift. I was so happy, we, as family, were so happy. My dad’s birthday was on the 9th too, so it was the perfect thing that ever happened to us. I think, Felipe, is still the best thing that could ever happened to us. He was too little and fragile with a darker skin than me and my brother, he looked just like my father. We never knew he had a heart disease, at least, the doctors never said anything until it was too late. It was too late to all of us, and too late to save his life. I remember that on October 13th of the same year, we have to go to the hospital before. I was so confused; I thought he was going to be right. After all, we took him from the San Fernando Hospital to Dr. Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital, but it was too late. His heart couldn’t make and it was the end of his life and the end of a part of our lives too. He stayed with us just some months, but it the best time.

Money

As an economically independent person, money is important for me because if I don't have it, I won't be able to pay the rent, the university and my life style. Sadly, my study depends on money. I explain myself, if there is no money, I can't even be a college student. I can't get any scholarship because I already I got a degree and because of that I am worry every single month about my payments.

I spend my money on college, rent, transportation, food and sometimes clothes. Since I left my formal job last year, I have been working as freelance and I have learnt to save money and be careful about wasting money. Last year, I realized I have enough things, like clothes for example, so I just need to learn how to combine and wear them. I can't deny that sometimes I would love to buy a new jacket, but when that happens I just look into my closet and the more than ten jackets tell me: "oh, come on!"

The hard part of being independent is to manage the money. Hard because before I just received my check at the end of the month, there was always my money in the same date. Nowadays, money depends if I have job to do or not, if someone contacts me to transcript or not. Fortunately, there is always something to do.

I have thought about the idea of being millionaire and I imagine myself investing in a exporting company. I have been always interested on business and that would be a great opportunity.

If I would have to pawn any of my belongings, probably I would try with my couch because I never use it so I wouldn't miss it (lol)

Camila Vallejo, the former university representative, the new elected to Congress

Chilean presidential and parliamentary elections took place last Sunday. And I found a new which tells us about Camila Vallejo election. She was elected to be part of the Congress as three other former university representatives, Karol Cariola, Giorgio Jackson and Gabriel Boric. She is the new representative from La Florida. The article remembers us about her strong participation in the student protests in 2011 when she was a Universidad de Chile student and leader of the Federation of students. The youngness is one of the other outstanding aspects the journalist mentions because he names her part of the new generation who is in politics and her international fame because of the 2011 student actions. The article also talks about her support to Michelle Bachelet campaign where she is part of the coalition, Nueva Mayoría and the clear victory Bachelet. However a second-round will have been done next month where, according to it, Bachelet will win.

However it shows us the opposite position that says to have Melissa Sepúlveda the recently elected new head of the Universidad de Chile's student body. Melissa explains that the Congress is not the places to make changes and she wouldn't vote for any of the former university representative.
